Types of memory games
- Card matching
The classic memory game. Flip two cards at a time, remember what you saw and clear the board. A relaxed place to start.
- Sequence and route
Watch blocks light up or a frog hop between lily pads, then repeat the order. Each correct round adds one more step, so you find your limit quickly.
- Number and word recall
Remember a string of digits or a list of everyday items and recall them a moment later. These are the formats used in classic short-term memory tests.
- N-back
Say whether the current square or sound matches the one from n steps back. The hardest format here, and the one most often used in working memory research.
- Spatial memory
Picture a 3D stack of boxes and count every box, including the ones you cannot see. Good if you prefer puzzles to speed.
Memory games for adults, seniors and kids
- Adults
Short rounds that fit a coffee break. Start with card matching, then move to dual n-back once you want a real stretch.
- Seniors
Start with Baby Animal Matching for a gentle warm-up. The short-term memory test gives a quick snapshot of everyday recall.
- Kids
Friendly characters, simple rules and quick wins. Baby Animal Matching and Frog Memory Leap are made with younger players in mind.
Memory games FAQ
Are these memory games free?
Yes. Every game runs in your browser for free, with no download or account needed, on desktop, tablet and phone.
Which memory game should I start with?
Start with the Memory Matching Game if you want something relaxed, or the Sequence Memory Test if you want a score to beat. Dual n-back is the most demanding, so try it once the others feel easy.
Do memory games improve your memory?
You will get better at the games you practise, and that improvement is real. Research is mixed on how much it carries over to everyday memory, so treat these games as practice and a fun challenge rather than a treatment.
How often should I play?
A few short sessions a week is plenty. Ten to fifteen minutes of focused play works better than one long session when you are tired.
